Extract Text From Image.

Need to extract text from an image (a photo, scan, screenshot, or saved picture)? This free extractor reads the words with on-device OCR and hands you clean, editable text.

No software to install, no account to create, and no upload queue. Your image is processed entirely in your browser; the text never touches our servers.

JPG · PNG · WebP · GIF · BMP · TIFF · up to 25.0 MB

Your image stays on your device. OCR runs directly in your browser. Nothing is uploaded or stored.

How to convert in seconds.

  1. Add your file with drag & drop, the file picker, or Ctrl + V paste.
  2. Choose the OCR language that matches your image.
  3. Press Extract text. Recognition runs locally in your browser.
  4. Edit the result, then copy it or download it as a .txt file.

What happens to your image?

In short: nothing. Your browser decodes the file and hands the image to an OCR engine running in the same tab. When you close or refresh the page, every trace is gone. There is no server copy because no server was ever involved. Ourprivacy page documents this architecture in plain language.

Tips for the best result.

  • Higher resolution is almost always better. Use the original file, not a thumbnail.
  • Straighten and crop to the text region before or after uploading (Rotate is built in).
  • Match the OCR language to the image. Wrong language is a top cause of gibberish.
  • Empty result? The image may be too blurry or the text too small. Try a sharper capture.

Frequently asked questions.

How do I extract text from an image step by step?

1) Add the image via drag & drop, file picker, or paste. 2) Pick the OCR language. 3) Press Extract text. 4) Edit, copy, or download the result as .txt. The whole process takes seconds and runs locally.

What kinds of images work best?

Sharp, high-resolution images of printed text: screenshots, scans at 200+ DPI, well-lit straight-on photos of documents. Avoid blur, heavy shadows, and decorative fonts.

Which formats can I extract text from?

JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF, and BMP work in all modern browsers. TIFF decodes in Safari; in other browsers convert to PNG first.

Is extracted text editable?

Yes. The result appears in an editable text area with live character and word counts, so you can correct OCR mistakes before copying or downloading.
